What is a Security DVR?
DVR stands for Digital Video Recorder. A Security DVR is capable of taking the video from digital or analog cameras and recording it into a digital format on a hard drive. It can record high quality video, maintenance free, for weeks or even months. An ideal replacement for time lapse VCRs.


What is a video capture card?
A video capture card or DVR card is a graphic card inside the Security DVR system which captures the signal from the cameras and stores the video on the hard drive.


Can you record to the cloud?
We offer a remote backup service for all of our systems. 

Our sytem lets you monitor anything, from anywhere! With the  app you can turn your spare phone or tablet into a home security camera, or add remote viewing and offsite cloud storage to your Hikvision CCTV cameras.

Once you’ve set up your cameras, you can log into your account and view your cameras from anywhere. If you have a subscription your video will be saved on the cloud for the length of your subscription plan.


How many hours of video can the Security DVR store?
The length of archive depends on number of cameras, frames per second (FPS) and amount of available hard disk space. Our preconfigured systems usually provide several weeks of archive on motion detect mode.


Do you have to have a sign to say recording CCTV?

No if its just in your home. However, when big businesses are recording they must have a sign to state they are recording members of the public.


What are the rules regarding CCTV in the home?

The rules are you must not intrude into your neighbors property when the footage is filming. You must have the correct time and date at all time when recording footage. You are responsible for any footage that is on your hardrive, this means you need to regularly delete any footage that is not needed to be stored. The is also a rule regarding the use of the footage. You are allowed to record to protect your property but you must not share this footage on any social media platform as this is a breach of the Data Protection Act thast you must follow. 


Can I view live and recorded video locally?

Yes, most of our Security DVR systems are Internet enabled. You can view live and recorded video from anywhere through the Internet.


What kind of broadband do I need? How much bandwidth?
Basic DSL or cable will suffice in most cases.


Can several users view one site at once?
Most Internet-enabled Security DVR systems allow multiple users to view the same systems recordings. However, as more people look at the same cameras/DVR at the same time, the bandwidth will be shared between them.  


How many cameras do I need?

This will depend on the size and layout of the area you wish to survey. We prefer to arrange a free survey so we can help you decide this.


Can I use my existing cameras?
Yes, you can use your existing CCTV cameras. We do repair old already existing cameras and we can also use already installed ones but plugging them into the DVR.


What camera lens size is the best for my application?
There is a large selection of security camera lenses, but the lens you will need depends on where you plan to use it. When the survey is completed we can advise based on your desires for your property.


Can I zoom in with a camera?
Yes, but you need a special camera called a Pan-Tilt-Zoom or PTZ camera. We again can advise this on the survey.


What type of Operating System (OS) does the Security DVR use?
Most PC-based Security DVR Systems use Windows 7 Professional, and Standalone Security DVRs are Linux based.


What kind of cable should I use?

What happens if there is power outage?
Most Security DVRs will come back on as soon as power is restored. However, we suggest an uninterruptable power supply (UPS) which provides a short period of backup power and also serves as a surge protection device.
